About This Project
Our client grew up with a pool and therefore a pool was a must in their design. However, they are also very into sports and so a basketball court was also needed. As far as the Landscaping & Plantings goes our client wanted low-maintenance plants and shrubs, garden beds (flower, herb, or vegetable), and lawn area (real or artificial). As far as the design aesthetic, they wanted a modern yet minimalistic look with cohesive with house exterior, a great seating area and a pavilion.
Project Challenges
Change orders? No problem! Our client had settled on an agreed upon contract amount in the fall of 2018 and was excited to start in the summer of 2019. As the project neared our clients decided it was in their best interest to do phase 1 and phase 2 at the same time so they could really enjoy the space without future interruptions to summer fun. We happily accommodated their request to add on a 16’x14′ covered pavilion with custom fire place. In addition they wanted the entire front of the home redone so everything flowed from front to back. While this may seem like an inconvenience it was seamlessly integrated into the work flow process. The sport court threw everyone for a loop though. When the sport court contractor was installing they misjudged the elevations and realized a retaining wall would be needed to keep the court level. The same day the concern arose our client was presented with a change order solution for a new wall. He agreed to the change that day and we were started the following week with very little delay to the overall project timeline. In the end the wall acted as a resting seat wall for the players and made for a nice dimensional variance between the sport court elevation and existing grades.
